チェンナイを訪れたのは2度目。
2008年2月、世界青年の船(以下SWY20)というプログラムで訪れたのが1度目。
大きな街というイメージはあったけれど、インドらしい見所というのも特に感じられなかったから、
今回来るとは思っていなかった。
安い航空券がチェンナイ発だったということで、滞在することになった。
といっても、2泊。
電車の遅延等、何かあったときにも飛行機を逃すことがないようにとの保険をかけての2泊。
なんだかんだあっという間でした。
This is my 2nd time visiting Chennai.
My first time was with SWY20 program.
My impression of this city is just a big city and not much interesting for me.
So, I didn't think of visiting here again during this trip.
Just because the cheap flight ticket I found was from Chennai, and decided to stay a few days.
Only 2 nights though.
I was bit afraid of delay of train or anything happened, so wanted to make sure I won't miss the flight.
It wasn't that long after all.



到着当日は、夕方だったので、宿探ししかできなかった。
I couldn't do anything beside finding my accommodation for the 1st day(1st Nov),
because I arrived here evening...



翌日(11月2日)は、ショッピングモールに行ってみた.
一番近くのモールは、スペンサーモール。
近いといっても宿から2,3kmほどの距離。
行って気付いたのは、ここ、SWY20のときに何度か来たモールぢゃん！
In the next day(2nd Nov SUN), I visited a shopping mall called "Spencer plaza"
where closest to my accommodation...about 2 to 3 km away...
And after arriving there, I found out that this is the shopping mall I'd come during SWY20!

裏口から入ったから最初は気付かなかったけど、
中を歩いてるときに気付いて、正面入口を後にしたときは確信した。
I entered the mall from back entrance and didn't realize it,
but when I was walking inside of the building, I noticed,
and when I was leaving there from the main entrance, I was certain.

それから、海を目指して歩いてみる。
と、新しそうなモールを発見。
EAという名前らしい。
入ってみると、外資系のお店ばっかり。
Then I head to the beach.
And I found another shopping mall seems like the name is "EA".
There are full of stored of foreign-affiliated company.

ゲームセンターなんかもあった。
けど、なんだか、インドらしさは全くなく、すぐ出てしまった。There is also a game center.
I felt like I'm not in India and got out of the place soon.

そして海。
砂浜が、海までの距離が長い！
海に近づくとまたこれがすごい人。
お店もたくさんあって、ここで遊んでご飯を食べて、一日過ごすことができそうだなぁとも感じた。
And the beach, the sea.
The beach is so long and there is a quite a distance to the waterside.
There were many people along the waterside.
And also there are many little shops for eating, and I felt that I can hang out here all day long.

高台があったので行ってみたら、ここもまたすごい人。
ビーチのほうを見ても、すごい人がいるのが良く分かった。
ビーチと逆側の遠くの方に港のようなものが見えた。
恐らく、SWY20の時、船が停泊していたところだろうと思い、翌日行くことに。There is also a small hill and went there.
Many people again, and I could see many people along the waterside.
And I saw a port(I guessed) in the opposite side of the beach.
I thought that maybe the port we stopped during SWY20, and decided to visit there tomorrow.

長い砂浜の端は、なにやらマーケットのようになっていた。
色々なものが売られていた。And there are also many small shops in the edge of the beach and seemed like a market.
They sell variety of things.

宿に帰ろうと思ったが、公園があったので入ってみる。

Bharat Ratna Dr.M.G.R Memorialという名前だそう。

I was gonna go back to my accommodation, but found a park and got into it.

The name of the park is "Bharat Ratna Dr.M.G.R Memorial".

そして、隣にも公園が。もちろん入ってみる。
Perarignar Anna Memorialという名前だそう。
Also there is another park next to it, and of course I got into it.
The name of the park is "Perarignar Anna Memorial"

その日の夕食は、ユースリーダーズサミットというプログラムのボランティアをしたときの友人と。

And that night, I met a friend of the voluntary program called YLS in Japan for dinner.

と、ある程度街歩きをしながら観光ができたなぁと感じた一日。
Yes, I did sightseeing much for the 1st day of Chennai.




最終日、11月3日。本日。
天気が悪くなければ日の出を見てみようと、一度5時に起きてみる。
けど、曇っていたので二度寝。。。
The last day, 3rd Nov, today.(MON)
I was gonna go see sunrise if the weather is not bad,
and got up at 5:00am and checked the weather.
It was so cloudy and slept again...

昼頃から港に向かう。
宿からその道のりは徒歩1時間程度。
近づくにつれて、なんとなく思い出す。
が、港の入口で足止め。
許可書などがないと入れない。
でも、SWY20の時のことを思い出せたからそれでよし。
I started walking toward the port around noon.
It is about 1 hour on food.
I started remember the time of SWY20 as I got close to the port.
But I couldn't get into the port without the permission...
I could only reach the entrance,
 but I'm glad that I came here because it made me remember the memories of SWY20!

帰りもまた徒歩。
違う道を選ぶ。
チェンナイセントラルという駅の近くを通ったので寄ってみる。
中はすごい人だった。
外の交通量もすごかった。
And also I walked on the way back, but chose the different way.
I walked near the station called "Central R.S.", and visited there, too.
There were full of people.
Also outside of the building so much traffic!

そのまた帰り道発見したAFC。
えー、アメリカンフライドチキン！
ここ、インドですけどー！
一人でこっそり笑いました。
On the way back from there, I found "AFC"
"American Fried Chiken"
Here is India, not America!
I chuckled at myself.

宿に戻ってきたのは出発して5時間後。
今日もまたよく歩いたなぁ。
By the time I got back to my accommodation, it's been about 5 hours since I left.
I walked so much again today.



チェンナイで残りしなければならないこと。
赤いバナナと黄色いバナナの食べ比べ。
まだお腹すいてないので、後ほど。
なので、感想はまたアップします♪
本当は、マックのベジバーガーも食べてみたかったけど、チェンナイで見つけることができず。
空港にあったら食べてみます☆
The thing that I need to do in Chennai.
Tasting and comparing the difference between "red banana" and "yellow banana"...
I'm not hungry yet, so I will try them later.
I will write about the impressions from that later...
To tell the truth, I wanted to try "veg-burger" in Mac Donald's, but couldn't find Mac Donald's...
If I can find Mac Donald's at the air port, I will try☆

そんなわけで、雨だったり曇りだったり天気の優れない中でも、
チェンナイ観光も満足しました。
And I quite enjoyed Chennai after all even the weather was bad with rain or cloud.


明日はタイはチェンマイ。
タイに行くだなんて、まだ実感はないです。
何年ぶりだろう？
I will be in Chengmai, Thailand.
I still don't feel like that I will be there so soon!
How many years I haven't been to Thailand?

Puducherry, India

プドチェリーという街に来た。

カニャクマリからインドの最終訪問地チェンナイの途中にあるこの街にせっかくなので寄ってみた。電車は朝5時半過ぎに到着。海で日の出を見たかったけれど、どうやら、駅にいる間に日の出は終わってしまったようだった。I came to Puducherry,on the way to Chennai where my last destination in India from Kanyakumari.The train arrived to Puducherry little after 5:30am.I wanted to see sunrise from the beach, but sunrise seemed over during my stay in the train station...

ビーチまで歩き、朝焼けを臨む。
I walked to the beach and saw morning glow.

夜行電車の疲れでうとうとしたり、
太陽が少し昇ってきたくらいまでゆっくりした。
I almost took a nap because of the tiredness from the over night train.
I relaxed there until sun rose a bit higher. 

近くでは、地元の人が獲れたての魚を購入しているようだった。
And I saw some local people(probably) buying fresh fish around there.

それから街歩き。

と、何かイベントが行われていた。

ガンディー記念像のあたり。

すごい人だったので、私もちょっと見てみた。

ちょっとしたパレードのようなものだった。

Then I started walking around the town.

There was something like an event was carried out around "statue of Gandi".

So many people were there and I decided to watch it.

It was like a little parade.

イベントから人が去り始めたので、私も去り。

ただぶらぶらと街中を歩いてみる。

政府広場の500m程北側に小さな市場があった。

野菜と果物の市場もあったけれど、魚介のマーケットが賑わっていた。

さすが、海沿いの街だなぁと感じた。

People started leaving and I left there, started just wondering around the town.

I found a small market about 500m north of "Government Square".

There are seafood, vegetable, and fruits are sold, but fish courner is most crowded with people.

I realized that this town is along the beach and maybe they have good seafood.

グバートマーケットというメインの市場もあるようなので行ってみたら、かなりの活気。

街中にはそんなに人を見なかったのに、ここに集まっていたのか！と感じるほどの賑わい。

野菜、果物、魚介類、生活用品、等、他の場所でも多くそうであるように、それぞれが集まるように区画されていた。

I also wanted to visit a main market called "Goubert Market", sooooooo crowded with people!

I didn't see much people in the town, and I felt that people living here get together in here.

Vegetables, fruits, seafood, household goods, and etc., as is often in other places, they are divided and placed by these sort. 

フランスの植民地であった時代もあるこの街は、東側のビーチに近い側はインドとは思えないような町並み。

特に、ビーチ沿いの道、プロムナード。

ここを歩いていると、自分自身がインドにいることを忘れてしまいそうにもなった。

This town used to be French colony and townscape of east part of this town where closer to the beach doesn't look like in India.

Especially "Promenade".

When I was walking around "Promenade",  I almost forgot that I was in India.

珍しい形の教会もあった。

この街には教会がいくつもあった。

フランス植民地でもあっただけあり、クリスチャンも多いのだろう。

I found a unique shape of church.

I saw many churches in this town.

I thought there must be many Christians because this town used to be French colony.

プドチェリーには半日ほどの滞在。
博物館なども入らなかったけど、時間をもてあますこともなかった。
まぁ訪れて良かったと思う。
本当は、プドチェリーの北10kmくらいにあるオーロヴィルっていうエコヴィレッジにも訪れたかったけど、
オーロヴィルは行くなら泊りがけで行きたいし、なにしろ存在を知るのが遅かったんです。
機会があればまた次回でしょう。
About 6 hours of stay in Puducherry.
I didn't get into any museam or that kind of places, but I enjoyed time here.
I'm glad that I visited here, Puducherry.
Actually, I also wanted to visit Auroville which is an eco-village about 10km north of Puducherry.
But if I visit there, I want to stay there a few days...it was too late for me to know about Auroville...maybe next time if i come here again.

ということで、13時過ぎのバスに乗って、チェンナイに来たわけです。
And I took a bus to Chennai little after 1:00pm and now I'm in Chennai.

プドチェリーからチェンナイまでの電車は1日2便しかないということで、
バスでの移動にしたけれど、バスは15分程度に1本あるようで、利用者も多いように見受けられた。
There are only 2 trains go to Chennai from Puducherry everyday.
And there are about 4 buses per an hour and seems many people use buses.
That's why I decided to take a bus.


17時過ぎにチェンナイに到着。
思ったより暗かった。
行きたかった宿は散々歩いた結果見つけられず、別の安宿へ。
トイレとシャワーが部屋についている部屋を割り増し無しで割り当ててもらえたけど窓無し。
まぁ2日だから別にいい。
とりあえず、無事チェンナイにも到着して、宿も見つけられたので良かった。と考えよう。
I arrived to Chennai little after 5:00pm.
It started getting dark and it was darker than I thought.
I walked so much for looking for the hostel I wanted to stay, but couldn't find...
So went to another cheap accomodation.
They gave me a room with toilet and bath inside for same price, but no window!
Well, only 2 night, I can stay here.
I decided to think that I'm glad that I finally arrived to Chennai and found a safe place to stay anyways.

さぁ、明日と明後日とチェンナイで何をしよう？
とりあえず、財布の中には100ルピーほどしか残ってないし、お金を得るところから始めないと。
といっても、特に買うものもなければやりたいこともない。。。
What am I going to do in Chennai?
not only tomorrow, but also after tomorrow!
I only have about 100 rupees in my wallet, so need to get some more money first.
But I don't have anything need to buy or any special thing that I want to do here in Chennai...
