reunion in Lonbok, Indonesia

ロンボク島のほとりにあるギリ３島
そのうちの一つのギリトラワンガンに行ってきました。(以下ギリと略します)
実は約８年前に訪れてる場所。
すっごく楽しみにして行ったのだけど、ちょっと残念でした。
There are 3 island near Lonbok island and one of them is called Gili Trawangan.(I will just call Gili in below)
I'd been there almost 8 years ago and visited there this time again.I was so excited to visit Gili but I didn't enjoy much this time...

当時よりもずいぶんと観光客が増えて、栄えてしまって、
私が当時素敵だと感じた部分が薄れてました。
スノーケルもしてみたけど、海の中も大分荒らされてしまって。
当時の方がキレイだった。
ダイビングするつもりだったのに、結局しなくていいと思い、しませんでした。
There are more and more tourists and developed,
And those I thought nice when I visited there last time, are less nice this time.
I did snorkel but weren't beautiful as last time because so many people do scuba diving and snorkel every day, I guess.I was going to do scuba diving before coming to Indonesia, but I decided not doing it this time.

それでもギリはキレイなんですけどね。のんびりできる場所ではなくなってたって感じます。
のんびりしようと思ってたから、まぁそんな長居せず、ロンボク島のどこかに行ってみようか、ってギリに着いてすぐ思ったんです。
Still Gili is a beautiful place, just not relaxing place anymore,
but I just wanted to visit there to be relaxed, so I went to a wrong place...
and I decided to visit somewhere else in Lombok as soon I arrived Gili.

それがたまたま、インドネシアに着いた翌日、
前回ギリを訪れたときに会った友人がロンボクに住んでることが発覚してたんです！
ギリ島に着いて、彼女との連絡が取れ、彼女のおうちに訪れることになったわけです。
ギリを訪れることで、彼女と、今の彼女のだんなさんとその友人と過ごした思い出が蘇って来手いたので、嬉しくて嬉しくて。ということで、ギリ島は２泊で去り、彼女のおうちに向かいました。
The second day of staying in Indonesia, I found out that a friend I met in Giri is living in Lombok now.
After arriving to Gili, we started having contacts and she said I can stay at her house!
I was soooo happy because visiting Gili reminds me the memory of we, I and her, her husband now and their friend hanged out together.So I only stayed Gili for 2 nights and visited her house.

ロンボクのマタラムという中心地の近くです。
おうちが実はまだ建設中で大変な時期にも関わらず、色々気を遣ってくれて、申し訳なくなるくらいでした。
ほんっとにありがとうございました！！！
The house is near the central of Mataram.
Her house is still underconstruction and busy time for her family, 
but they gave me a very warm reception and I even felt it too much!I really really appreciate them, thank you sooooooo much!

バリ島はヒンズーが多いけれど、ここロンボクはほぼムスリム。
ということで、この時期、実はラマダンなんですね。
日が出ているうちは食べ物、飲み物を口にしてはいけない。
だから、殆どのレストランは日中閉まっている。
けれど、やっぱり逃げ道を作ってるレストランがあるみたいです。
Most of the Balinese are Hindu, but most of Lombokian are Muslim.
So this time of this year is Ramadan.
After sunrise till sunset, people cannot eat or drink anything!,
almost all the restaurants are closed during day time,
but I heard that there are a few restaurants open during day time also.


ムスリムの話も沢山聞きました。
インドネシアの生活、インドネシアについての話も沢山聞きました。
彼女と以前会ったときはできなかったような深い話もできて、
ほんっとに充実した３日間。
She taught me the culture of Muslim, Indonesia, life in Indonesia, and etc.
We couldn't have this much time last time we met and could talked a lot this time.
I really had a grateful time with her!


以前会った時は、「また再会できたらいいなぁ」というお別れから、今回は、「絶対また世界のどこかでいつか再会しようね！」というお別れに変わりました。
彼女からはミサンガの贈り物をいただき、私はパールのピアスをプレゼント。
二つとももちろんおそろい。
ミサンガは、今は私の左足に付いています。
これもまた、私のこれから続く旅のお守り。
日本に帰ったらピアスの穴を開け直すから、ピアス、付けるよー♪
When we met last time, we said "hope to see you again" when we said bye,
but this time, we said "we should meet again someday in somewhere".
She gave me a good-luck string.
I gave her a pair of peal pierced earring.
Both of them are pairs, so we both have same things.
I wear the string on my left ankle now.
This is my new amulet for this travel now.And I will have new ear holes and wear the pierce earring!

今回のロンボク訪問も、偶然から素敵な再会と、
とっても充実した時間になりました。
I had a such a great reunion starting with a coincidence in Lombok.And I really enjoyed staying there and have a great time!

I stayed from 25^th June to 1^st July 2014.


ポートヴィラで滞在したのはシティーロッジ。
マーケットの目の前という好立地。
かつ、まぁ値段も悪くない。
ということで宿泊を決めた宿。
相部屋にタオル貸し出しも付いていた。
I stayed at “CITY LODGE” in Port Vila.
There is the main market in front of the hotel.
And price isn't bad.
That's why I decided this place.
Dormitory room also has towel service for free.

外見はこんな感じ
Out side of the building is like this.

階段を上がると受付がある。

There is a reception upstairs.

廊下の左右にシングル、ツイン、ダブル等、部屋があり、
その一番奥に相部屋がある。
私はその相部屋に泊まりました。
There are single, twin and double rooms along the hallway,
I stayed at the dormitory in the end of the hallway.

相部屋の正面にあるダイニングルーム
簡素であるが、ここがある意味宿泊者のたまり場であった。

コンロ、冷蔵庫、簡単な調理器具はあったが、電子レンジはなかった。

There is a dining room in front of the dormitory room.
Not laxuary, but people hang out here.
There are a portable cooking stove, refrigerators and some cookwares, but not a microwave.

私の宿泊した相部屋
2段ベッドが4台。
一応部屋の中にトイレとシャワーが完備されていた。
特に居心地が悪いことはないが、夜、蚊が気になった。
This is the dormitory room I stayed.
4 bunk beds.
The room was ok, but mosquito bothered me sleeping...

掃除の様子。
毎日ではないが、数日に一回掃除をしてくれる。
頼めば毎日してくれるのかもしれないが。
(人が入れ替わる時は絶対してますよ！)
面白いのでその様子も写真におさめてみた。
This is how people clean the room.
They clean room once a few days.
They may clean it if we ask.
(Of course they clean every after people left!)
I thought it is intresting how they do it, and took pictures.

キッチンでの団欒
マネージャーのマイケルさんは本当に良くしてくれました。
Pictures of we hanged out at the dining room.
The manager called Michael was really nice to everybody.

バヌアツではカヴァという飲み物が飲まれています。

お祝い事や、何か特別なことがあるときにも飲まれるようです。

女性は飲むことが禁止されている島もあるようですが、私が訪れたエフェテ島では女性も飲んでいました。

聞いたところによると、18歳未満だったと思うのですが、お酒のようにある一定の歳にならないと飲んではならないそうです。

Kava is drink that is drunk in Vanuatu.

People also drink it for special occasions.

In some island in Vanuatu, drinking kava is prohibited to women, but in Efete island which I visited this time, women also drink.

I heard that people has to be over certain age...I think it was over 18 to be able to drink kava, like alcohol in most of the countries.
とってもまずいのですが、飲んだあとはお酒を飲んだようにほろ酔い気分になります。

ほろ酔いといってもとても穏やかなものです。

ナカマルでは穏やかに会話を楽しむ人を多く見受けられます。

カヴァを一種の麻薬という人もいます。

For me the taste of kava is disgusting, but I liked the feeling which is like after drinking alcohol, relaxing and calm tipsy.

I saw many people enjoying relaxing conversations in nakamal

Some people said that kava is one of natural drugs.

ナカマルというのは色々なところに点在するカヴァバーで、日の入り頃にオープンし、

仕事終わりの人たちで賑わいます。

Nakamal is the name of kava bar which exist many place in the city I visited, Port Vila, and it opens around the time of sunset.

and those nakamals are crowded with people after work.
今回のバヌアツでの滞在中は3回飲む機会がありました。

最初は、友人と友人の会社の方が連れてってくれました。
I had opportunities of drinking kava 3 times during staying in Vanuatu this time.
My friend and her co-workers took me to nakamal for the first time.



これがナカマルカウンター。ここでカヴァを注文します。
約100mlで100バツ、約50mlで50バツだったと思います。
いつもご馳走してもらっていたので、価格を良く覚えていないのです。
ちなみにカヴァの濃さはナカマルによって違うらしいのですが、多くの人は1回カヴァバーに行くと、3から5杯程度飲むそうです。This is the nakamal counter.
We order kava here.
I think kava costs 100VUV for about 100ml, and 50VUV for about 50ml.
I heard the strenth of the kava is depending on the nakamal.
People around me always bought them for me, so I don't remember well...
And most people go to nakamal drink about 3 to 5 cups of kava for a visit.

カウンターの内側では、こんな風にカヴァが注がれていました。Kava was prepared like this in inside of the counter.

これを一気に飲み干します。
People drink it all at once.

 
口の中がカヴァ臭くなります。ちょっとしびれる感じもします。
なので、みなさん口の中を水でゆすいだり、唾を吐いたりしています。
After drinking kava, inside of mouth tastes like kava.
I felt little whacked in my mouth, too. 
So, People rinse their mouth with water and spit.
Well, I thought it doesn't work good enough just to rinse my mouth with water,

って、それだけぢゃ口の中のカヴァっぽさはおさまらないし、
きっとそれだけぢゃ楽しくないのでしょうか。。。
ちゃんと食べ物も売ってました♪
カヴァのカウンターの隣に、食べ物のカウンターを発見。
って、それが普通のナカマルのスタイルだそうですが。食べ物によって価格が違うようですが、ここでも友人がおもてなししてくれて、金額は全く分かりませんでしたが。
but also it is not good enough for feeling refreshed inside of the mouth just rinse with water after drinking kava...
I found food!Well that is just normal style of nakamal...There is a food counter next to kava bar counter.
All the food there have different price, but again my friend bought them for me and I don't know the price...

ここのナカマルでは、日が暮れてくると、赤い照明を灯していました。
というのも、通常の照明だと明るすぎて、カヴァによるリラックス状態には良くないとのこと。
ナカマルというのは私の解釈ではリラックスする場所です。
日本の居酒屋のように騒いだり、声を張って会話する人たちはいませんでした。
I heard that normal light is too bright for relaxing mood with kava.
According to my interpretation, nakamal is place to be relaxed.
They turned on red colored lights when it gets dark in this nakamal.
I didn't find anybody who are clamoring or talking loudly.

これが私の二度目のカヴァ体験。
風邪気味だったけど、薬を飲むようにカヴァが風邪をやわらげてくれるのではないかと思って飲んだけど、
かえってカヴァが回って、ちょっと辛かったです(笑)
この日は、友人のオフィスにて。
彼女のボスの送別のためとのこと。
ペットボトルにカヴァを入れるんですね！
My second experience of kava was at my friend's work place.
I had a slight cold, but I thought kava may work as medicine and took it,
but kava worked stronger than usual(I guess) and I felt bit sick...
People had kava for farewell of her boss.
By the way, people put kava in plastic bottles!

同じ日に、オフィスの建物の裏でも人々がカヴァを飲んでいました。
私もちょっとだけ混ぜてもらいました！
On the same day, other people were having kava in behind of the building.
And I joined them a bit.

偉い方が見えてたそうなので、写真を撮ってもらっちゃいました！
There were quite important people in Vanuatu and I asked to take picture with me!

最後の一回は泊まっていた宿のマネージャーさんが連れてってくれました。
そこに友人も加わって！
The manager of the hostel I was staying took me to a nakamal for the last time.
And my friend joined it.

ここのナカマルは赤い照明ではなく、ちょっと薄暗いものでした。
This nakamaru didn't have red lights, but had a little dim lighting.

とここまで来てせっかくなので、お土産にカヴァをと思っていたら、街中にありました。
カヴァストア。
スーパーで売っているパウダーカヴァでなく、インスタントカヴァ、その他バラエティーにとんだカヴァ商品が売ってました。
が、カヴァを持って旅行するのは危険なので、日本に送りました。
日本に送るのも没収が怖かったので、あまり購入しませんでした。。。
After tried kava for 3 times, I thought of buying kava,
I found a store in the city.
We can buy the kava powder in the super market, but here they sell instant kava and other things relating to kava.
But it is not safe to travel with kava,
and I was going to ship to Japan with other stuff and afraid of take them away in Japan, so didn't buy much of it...

こうしてカヴァを経験して思ったこと。
味がここまで悪くなければ、きっともっと世界に広まっただろうって。
After experienced kava and I thought,
if kava doesn't taste this disgusting, kava would've been drunk in more countries in the world...
